Introduction to Knitting with Colour

Knitting with colour

Class Description

This series of three classes is designed for knitters who wish to explore working with colour.  We’ll use a variety of knitting techniques to allow you to attempt a wide range of projects upon completion of the classes, including using charts, creating colour work patterns using slipped stitches, stranded colour work (Fair Isle) and Intarsia (picture knitting).

During our time together, we will knit the panels required to create a beautiful, flap-close bag suitable for holding all your knitting accessories.  Each panel will form from a different method of colour-work and new techniques will be introduced as your confidence grows.

Materials Required

You will need a pair of 4mm needles (either straight or circular) for working back and forth and three colours of DK (double knitting) yarn. Only a small amount of yarn is needed – especially in the contrasting colours – so this is the perfect opportunity for using up part balls of yarn.

Skills Required

Casting on and off; knit, purl, increasing stitches (desirable, but not essential), familiarity reading patterns.

Class Dates:

Saturday 7th, 14th and 21st March: 0930 – 11:30. £85 for the course, includes a barista coffee or tea from our cafe each week.

Please email katie@borderspottery.com or WhatsApp +44 07387660435 to book

Weekend Pottery Workshop

Pottery making and Ceramic surface printing two day workshop

This weekend workshop is suitable for beginners to pottery or those looking to discover new techniques for surface decoration.

Saturday and Sunday 5th-6th July  10am-3pm

On the first day we will make suitable pieces of pottery using slabs made with our slab roller. You will also prepare your print artwork - you may want to bring some images for inspiration, but some illustrated books and magazines will be provided if not.

On day two you will refine your pieces and then use a variety of printmaking techniques in order to create surface decoration.

Your pottery will be ready to collect or sent out (postage will be charged I’m afraid!) having been fired and glazed 2-3 weeks after the date.

If you would like to make a weekend of it and enjoy the amazing Berwickshire coastline while you are here, we have two pods on the premises that sleep a couple in each one. Please select the accomodation option for this. The price is for two people and includes the workshop on both days, accomodation and an evening meal on the Saturday night. Our cafe is open for breakfast and lunches  and home-baking for the weekend. A morning and afternoon Barista coffee or tea are included in the price of the workshop.

If you have a motorhome, there is also a site next door you can book. It is Starney Bay Campsite in St Abbs and is directly next to our property.

We may do some of the course on our outside tables so please come with clothes/ hats etc for all weather. Please wear clothes you don’t mind getting a wee bit messy.

You can park below our cafe as long as you respect farm access when parking as we are situated at a working farm.

Bookable using the link below or by emailing katie@borderspottery.com
